    1. he wanted to make the officials think he might take a hostage, so that's why he wanted 9 not-faulty parachutes. It doesn't matter if he left anyone behind

  3. assuming he left the other 8 parachutes behind.
He(hacker) was the pilot. He took the cargo and jumped. Now there wasn't any to fly the plane. He wanted the cargo only and didn't want passengers to die. So he got parachutes for them so that they can jump too (later on) and save themselves.

  5. Cargo is luggage which he took, rest are 8 passengers thats why left 8 parachutes.

  6. Becoz he wasn't a hijacker. Hijackers are not mercifully like he did, he got what he wanted so he had no business with the other guys.

    1. A hijacker is a person who confiscates a vehicle that is currently being used. It has nothing to do with their aptitude for mercy.

    2. i think it is because there was a baby amongst them

  7. there were 8 passegers(including the hijacker).
He demanded 9 ...coz 1 is needed for the cargo, 1 for himself n rest 7 for other passengers...thanks.

  8. The hijacker was afraid that if he asked for a single parachute to jump out, someone would tamper with it so that he would be killed when he jumped out with it. By asking for 9 parachutes, they would think that he intended all the passengers to jump too. Since no one knew which parachute the hijacker would pick, they dared not tamper with any of them, lest one of the passengers accidentally got the faulty parachute and would be the one to fall to their death. The hijaker knew that no matter which one he took, it would be a properly working parachute.

  12. there were 9 people on the plane (pilot, co-pilot) and 7 passengers (1 must be the hijacker himself) he holds the cargo in his hands and take 1 parachute leaves 8 parachutes all the people will fight for the paras and in the end start hitting each other...

  13. The other eight parachutes are for the cargo that he is taking with him. He isn't holding the cargo....

  14. The riddle (like most) uses deceptive wording to confuse you. When it says at the end "leaving the other eight behind," it's not talking about the other 8 parachutes, it's talking about the 8 passengers. He uses 1 parachute for himself, 8 for the cargo, and leaves 8 passengers behind.

  15. He achieved his goal. Left the scene without troubling anybody.

  16. there were 8 passengerws plus himself make 9 DAH

  22. I think he kidnapped the pilot, because there was a huge reward for the pilot. After hooking himself to the pilot and securing the parachute to them both he jumped out of the plane. He wasn't really a hijacker or he would have taken over the plane, but he was a bounty hunter. He knew with their alltitude that on autopilot the others on the plane would have time to put on their shoots and jump to safety.

  24. I read two really good answers, and one of them I came up with myself.

My answer was that he was the pilot, only wanting to steal the cargo. But the answer that he didn't want anyone to tamper with his chute is pretty good too, except we have no idea as to how many there are in the plane. Since the riddle doesn't specify, I'll still go with him being the pilot.

It also said that he left the other 8 parachutes behind, so he didn't use them to take the cargo.

Also, I doubt that there's a copilot since there were only 8 passengers. It was most likely a small plane.

**If someone makes a spelling mistake, don't look it up on google and correct them.

  25. so many annoying things wrong with this riddle. he didnt want 8... he wanted 9. when did he demand these parachutes? in the same sentence he is demanding parachutes off people (presumably) on the ground, then suddenly hes putting it on and jumping out the plane... the answer is totally obvious if the thing was written properly

  28. He did it because he wanted them to think he was taking the 8 passengers with him so they wouldn't risk giving him a faulty parachute in case one of his hostages got the faulty one.

  29. He needed the parachutes for the cargo he had taken

  30. The plane never left the ground. He took the cargo and then demanded the parachutes which he coulnt get unless the plane was on the ground already.

    ReplyDelete
  31. so the eight passengers can surrvive

    ReplyDelete
  32. because the official people would never of given him a non faulty parachute if they thought he was taking someone with him. Whereas if he asked for only one they would of given him a faulty one in the hopes he dies jumping off the plane. worked it out all by myself

  33. Who delivered the parachutes to the plane and how?

    ReplyDelete
  34. The people would think that the person was taking others with him, so they wouldn't give him a faulty one. But then he took one parachute without taking a hostage.

  35. He didnt want eight, he asked for nine.....lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. he wants to use the parachutes to use on the cargo

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think he took 9 because he wanted to attach the items (cargo) to the remaining eight parachutes

    ReplyDelete
  38. Because he damaged th other parachutes so none could persue him

    ReplyDelete
  39. Coz he destroyed othe 8 parachutes so none could persue him

  40. I think that the hijaker left the parachutes threatening the people that if they didn't let him go with the cargo he would throw the parachutes off the plane!

    ReplyDelete
  41. He took one parachute for himself and 8 parachutes for all his cargo. Easy peasy.

  44. I'm confused. Did he take eight parachutes or did he leave eight parachutes? If he took eight parachutes and left one which is what I thought he did, he probably used seven to carry his cargo and one for him. If not, I say ask one of the passengers.
    Peace. Anonymous out.

  47. 8 chutes for the cargo of course the precious cargo can't be easily carried down and even if it is he doesn't want those 8 coming after him with the parachutes

  51. The other eight parachutes were for the cargo. -_-

  52. at the end of the question it says y did he want 8 but he didnt wand 8 he wanted 9?

    ReplyDelete
  53. The answer makes sense only if you rephrase the poorly worded puzzle. Hijacker asked for 9 parachutes(not 8). Why did he ask for 9 (if he only ended up using one)? Ans: If he'd asked for only the one he needed it might be rigged to fail in some way. Not much of riddle if you ask me.

  55. If he got caught, the couldn't charge him for the deaths of 8 people...

    ReplyDelete
  56. The answer is "NO" he does not want 8 he want's 9.. Just read the riddle again it's not complicated it's just a trick question.

    ReplyDelete
  57. There are a lot of answers to this problem.
    -He wanted 9, not eight
-So that it wouldn't be his fault for the death of eight people.(He would let the parachutes go so that it would look like if there were no more parachutes left and he was the man who was chosen to survive)
-He put the cargo on his parachutes.
-The precious cargo were rich people xD

    1. no its obvious, its so that they wont give him a faulty parachute since it looked like he was gonna take a hostage so they, since he asked for 8 other parachutes
