    1. he wanted to make the officials think he might take a hostage, so that's why he wanted 9 not-faulty parachutes. It doesn't matter if he left anyone behind

      Delete
  3. assuming he left the other 8 parachutes behind.
He(hacker) was the pilot. He took the cargo and jumped. Now there wasn't any to fly the plane. He wanted the cargo only and didn't want passengers to die. So he got parachutes for them so that they can jump too (later on) and save themselves.

  6. Becoz he wasn't a hijacker. Hijackers are not mercifully like he did, he got what he wanted so he had no business with the other guys.

He demanded 9 ...coz 1 is needed for the cargo, 1 for himself n rest 7 for other passengers...thanks.

  8. The hijacker was afraid that if he asked for a single parachute to jump out, someone would tamper with it so that he would be killed when he jumped out with it. By asking for 9 parachutes, they would think that he intended all the passengers to jump too. Since no one knew which parachute the hijacker would pick, they dared not tamper with any of them, lest one of the passengers accidentally got the faulty parachute and would be the one to fall to their death. The hijaker knew that no matter which one he took, it would be a properly working parachute.

  14. The riddle (like most) uses deceptive wording to confuse you. When it says at the end "leaving the other eight behind," it's not talking about the other 8 parachutes, it's talking about the 8 passengers. He uses 1 parachute for himself, 8 for the cargo, and leaves 8 passengers behind.

  22. I think he kidnapped the pilot, because there was a huge reward for the pilot. After hooking himself to the pilot and securing the parachute to them both he jumped out of the plane. He wasn't really a hijacker or he would have taken over the plane, but he was a bounty hunter. He knew with their alltitude that on autopilot the others on the plane would have time to put on their shoots and jump to safety.

  24. I read two really good answers, and one of them I came up with myself.

My answer was that he was the pilot, only wanting to steal the cargo. But the answer that he didn't want anyone to tamper with his chute is pretty good too, except we have no idea as to how many there are in the plane. Since the riddle doesn't specify, I'll still go with him being the pilot.

It also said that he left the other 8 parachutes behind, so he didn't use them to take the cargo.

Also, I doubt that there's a copilot since there were only 8 passengers. It was most likely a small plane.

**If someone makes a spelling mistake, don't look it up on google and correct them.

  25. so many annoying things wrong with this riddle. he didnt want 8... he wanted 9. when did he demand these parachutes? in the same sentence he is demanding parachutes off people (presumably) on the ground, then suddenly hes putting it on and jumping out the plane... the answer is totally obvious if the thing was written properly

  31. so the eight passengers can surrvive

    ReplyDelete
  32. because the official people would never of given him a non faulty parachute if they thought he was taking someone with him. Whereas if he asked for only one they would of given him a faulty one in the hopes he dies jumping off the plane. worked it out all by myself

  33. Who delivered the parachutes to the plane and how?

  44. I'm confused. Did he take eight parachutes or did he leave eight parachutes? If he took eight parachutes and left one which is what I thought he did, he probably used seven to carry his cargo and one for him. If not, I say ask one of the passengers.

  52. at the end of the question it says y did he want 8 but he didnt wand 8 he wanted 9?

    ReplyDelete
  53. The answer makes sense only if you rephrase the poorly worded puzzle. Hijacker asked for 9 parachutes(not 8). Why did he ask for 9 (if he only ended up using one)? Ans: If he'd asked for only the one he needed it might be rigged to fail in some way. Not much of riddle if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The answer is "NO" he does not want 8 he want's 9.. Just read the riddle again it's not complicated it's just a trick question.

    ReplyDelete
  57. There are a lot of answers to this problem.
    -He wanted 9, not eight
-So that it wouldn't be his fault for the death of eight people.(He would let the parachutes go so that it would look like if there were no more parachutes left and he was the man who was chosen to survive)
-He put the cargo on his parachutes.
-The precious cargo were rich people xD

  59. while using a parachute both hands are involved in controlling parachute so the hijacker cannot take cargo and also he cannot take cargo in a bag as he have to carry parachute bag on his shoulder.

  62. He demanded all of the parachutes so that he can be certain that they don't give him a sabotaged parachute (If they break all the 9 parachutes then they wont be able to jump out after him).
    So yeah. Safety.

    ReplyDelete
  63. There was cargo in the plane which the hijacker could not have possibly carried by himself. He could have taken one piece of cargo and jumped with a parachute. In order to ensure that the remaining pieces of cargo too were airdropped safely, he left 8 parachutes for the passengers and asked them to jump with the remaining cargo pieces strapped to each person. In order to force them to do so, he could have placed a bomb in the plane which would have forced them to parachute after him. In case any smart aleck did not jump with the cargo, he would have shot him as soon as he saw the person landing without the cargo since the hijacker would be waiting on the ground :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. He didn't want 8 he wanted 9

    ReplyDelete
  65. He was an alien and a UFO landed on the roof of the plane and it needed paracthutes to fly to the sun so it would be destroyed and nyan cat flies up and poops on the sun

    ReplyDelete
  66. He was pilot as well as 1 of the 8 passengers he used one for himself one for cargo and left the rest behind for the 7 remaining passengers.

    ReplyDelete
  67. He is the pilot, the nineth person on the plane. He ordered 9 parachute for each one of them, got into one and jumped out of the plane leaving the 8 hijackers behind with 8 parachute to save themselves. He has nothing to do with the cargo, he just wanted to save himself.

    ReplyDelete
  68. He wanted the cargo
but he coudnt carry it on parachutes
    so he needed the plane
    but not the passengers

So whathe did he asked all passengers to jump.
    including the pilot..

and ultimately flew away wid the pane as well as cargo

    ReplyDelete
  69. Dear all, It's very simple...
Let us consider there is one hijacker (He is one of the passenger) + 7 other passenger + 1 pilot = 9 people on the board..
There are probably 2 reasons for asking 9 parachutes
    1. He asked for 9 parachutes to ensure that all the parachutes are untampered..
    2. When he left 8 parachutes behind other passengers or pilot will think that he must have plotted bomb in the plane and to save his life he jumped.. following the same other passengers and pilot also jumped off by wearing parachutes... if hijacker is the only person to jump off the plane probably the armed forces following him will shoot him from other air craft or helicopter.. (I am assuming other aircraft / helicopter as there should be some way to provide parachutes in flying plane)
When he jumped.. probably after very short time all the passangers have jumped... so armed force can not identify the real hijacker...

  70. the 8 passengers were his accomplices (also hijackers)

    ReplyDelete
  71. he put the other parachutes to the cargos and jumps out.
the 8 passengers are left behind but not the parachutes

    ReplyDelete
  72. OMG so simple....he asked for 9, destroyed the other 8 so no one can follow him (incase there was a marshall on the plane), uses the other one to escape.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Stupid, he didn't ask for 8, he asked for nine. Also, who is handing him parachutes? Doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  74. First, you can't know why he did anything. It's always a guess, so riddles like this are open-ended and there is nothing necessary about them. They're failures as riddles. They're not logic puzzles at all, just a game where you try to guess what the guy who made up the riddle chose to make the answer. Stupid.

My guess would be that he wanted to make sure he didn't have a faulty parachute. If there are 9 (or around 9) parachutes on the plane, and he as access to all of them, he can choose one at random to make sure the one he has isn't sabotaged or damaged. After all, those giving the parachutes over don't know which he'll use, and they can't destroy them all because they might need them (though there's nothing in the riddle that says they're absolutely necessary or likely, right?). He obviously didn't want to kill anyone or even deprive them of the ability to jump out because he didn't destroy (as far as I can tell) or take them.

    1. maybe its all because that those eight passenger have their own cargo.

      Delete
    2. maybe because all every passenger has their own cargo, if you ride on a plane as far as i know they will give you your own parachute to ensure all safety. if the hijacker receives 8 parachutes, it means that all the passenger gave their cargo

      Delete
  75. He used those 8 parachutes to bind those 8 passengers so that no one follow him, the pilot cannot leave his seat.

    ReplyDelete
  76. He didn't want 8 anything. The man demands 9 parachutes, takes one parachute and the cargo. Nowhere does it say anything about the man wanting 8.

    ReplyDelete
  77. the real question is, how did they get him the parachutes?

  78. i have a riddle for u ,i have two words but a thousand letters what am i

    ReplyDelete
  80. First who will open parachute with cargo,so the hijacker was plane pilot and passengers were his friend

    ReplyDelete
  81. I think the answer is that there were totally 9 ppl in the plane including the hijacker. The hijacker wanted to take the cargo which might be kept in one of the parachutes. Since all look same he demanded all the 9 parachutes checked the one in which the cargo is kept and took that parachute and left the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Omg lol. It's so obvious. Either, the hijacker hijacked the plane so that it would kill the passengers or he wanted to pretend that he took 8 people as hostages to keep the passengers quiet and he took away the cargo.
