A farmer and his neighbour once went to Emperor Akbar's court with a complaint.
'Your Majesty, I bought a well from him,' said the farmer pointing to his neighbour, 'and now he wants me to pay for the water.'
'That's right, your Majesty,' said the neighbour. 'I sold him the well but not the water!'

  1. From older stories, I think Birbal would have asked the neighbour to pay rent for his water lying in the new owner's well.

  2. Birbal asked neighbour u sold him well not water, he said yes, then birbal asked him then why are you keeping your water in his well, either you pay him rent for your water or take out full water in one shot......

  3. Birbal definitely asked the neighbor to first pay the farmer or else take the water which he claims he did not sell to the farmer!!!

  4. "Didn't you say that you sold your well to this farmer?" Birbal asked the neighbor. "So, the well belongs to him now, but you have kept your water in his well. Is that right? Well, in that case you will have to pay him a rent or take your water out at once."

The neighbor realized that he was outwitted. He quickly apologized and gave up his claim.
