sherlock puzzle

sherlock puzzle - 24 june

A wife and her husband were driving in their car on the highway. All of a sudden, they ran out of gas. So the husband said to the wife, 'Now, you stay here. I will go down the highway to the nearest gas station, and I will be about 1 hour. Just listen to the radio and read some books, and remember to lock all the windows and doors. I will leave the keys with you.' So, off the husband went, and the wife first locked ALL the windows and doors. Next, she turned on the radio, and this is what she heard on the news report:

'THERE IS A MURDERER ON THE LOOSE. HE WAS LAST SEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, WEARING ALL BLACK, ABOUT 5 FOOT 11 INCHES. PLEASE, BE AWARE AND CONTACT THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY.' The wife got very scared. She turned off the radio and double checked the locked doors. Then she saw the murderer, only a couple feet away from the car. An hour later, the husband returned to his car. Inside the car, his wife was DEAD, she had been murdered. All the windows were still locked, and the doors. No windows were broken, and the car was in PERFECT condition. No scratches or anything, it was the same way as when he left it. How did the murderer kill the wife?Yo dont need to be sherlock holmes to solve this ??

    1. The couple knew that there was no roof to the car. The husband said to lock all windows and doors, and so she did, but the husband only said it to protect her from any danger that might occur. ( the only common reason ).

Now in this case the husband is the murderer. Who told her to lock all windows and doors just to look as though he is a nice helping guy, because if he didn't then the wife would of ran away.
The husband would of came with a mask or something on his face, maybe even wore new clothes. All to show that he is not her husband because she could escape and tell the police or something. Which also brings up another point that the weapon he had to kill her wasn't really good. It would have been something like a cloth or a rope or something ( Since he only had a basic tool to kill her, that's why he wore the mask). So the best answer would have been that she was suffocated by her husband. Only if there was no roof on the car.

Now if the car did have a roof then the murderer would have been using a laser to threaten her to open the door. in which the murderer would kill her and put her back in the car leaving no signs.

    4. No. The radio said, "THERE IS A MURDERER ON THE LOOSE." The husband couldnt have been the murderer, because the murderer already has a criminal history. The radio couldnt have predicted someone who would eventually murder, it could only warn about already existing murderers. And besides, she wouldn't have suffocated, she could have the AC on, which would give her air and also keep her cool, so she wouldnt die of heat.

    1. why would the killer put her back in the car? the sensible thing to do after a murder would be to leave the scene of crime.either the husband is the killer. he could have been the serial killer and the wife would not have suspected him. he may be having a multiple personality disorder. the next possibility is suffocation as the doors and windows were closed. she would have turned the ac off so as to hide from the killer.

  24. Uhhh.....
    I'm thinking,
1.suffocation. If the wife locked all the windows and doors, no circulation of air. But still, it never mentions anything about anyone NOT turning on the A.C.... But if she died of suffocation, that would make the husband a suspect, having it been him to tell her to "lock all the windows and doors".
2.Heart Attack. Highly unlikely for the woman to die and the murderer NOT take advantage of what would be in his mind a "free car".
3.Poison gas..?? I know some might think it is proposterous that a husband would poison his wife. But, he did advise her to lock all windows and doors, but idk for sure.....
Either, way, I'm sure the husband was the murderer.

  25. maybe the murderer clogged the exhaust pipe and she was too scared to come out. So she chocked. Or she came out and she got murdered and put back in the car. It might have been the husband, because the car wasn't stolen. And he can't steal what he owns. On the other hand it might not have been. The murderer just might not have wanted the car. Also it could have been some one who has something against the wife. Maybe some one was jealous. Maybe it was the husband ,because he might of caught his wife cheating on him.

  34. It was the trunk. The husband opened it to get out the jerry-can, so he can carry the gas. A lot of cars now-a-days have a release in the trunk not only to open the trunk, but also the back seat. Some cars don't even have a partition between the trunk and the backseat (like minivans or jeeps).

My argument to the convertible idea, is that you can't really say that the windows are locked, when they can't be seale. So he had to get in another way.

  60. If the answer is "it was a convertible", then this is merely a blonde joke; husband and wife both; why lock doors and windows in a convertible?
To all who said that she died cause she had no air to breath because the doors and windows are closed; autos are not air-tight; she didn't run out of oxygen, especially in a mere one hour.
How bout, the dude walked by in all black, but he was a good-lookin' guy and he had a bottle of Jack, he offered her a drink, she opened the door, got out, took a drink, got back in her car, and died because the drink was full of poison.
Questions like this don't have solid answers.

    ReplyDelete
  61. My best educated guess is that it was the husband. 1. The trip to the gas station takes the husband "about an hour". 2. The husband leaves. 3. She sees the murderer, note is doesn't say the murderer she saw was wearing black or 5"11(it also doesn't state how tall the husband is or what he's wearing). 4. AN HOUR after she sees the murderer, the husband returns. Note that it specifically states that the wife sees the murderer, THEN it states that the husband returns an hour later. Also, he specifically tells her to listen to the radio, suggesting that maybe he knew that the radio was reporting a killer on the loose giving him an alibi. Since there was no forced entry, the only explanation is that the wife opened the door(husband left the keys). The husband is probably the only person(now she's scared) she trusts unlocking the door for(or the cops). Furthermore, an hour roundtrip walk is a half hour walk there and a half hour walk back. What it takes me to walk in half an hour, I can drive in 5-10min. So he either knew there was a gas station up the road and how long it would take him to walk there and back roundtrip(which suggests he planned this out) or he had just passed a gas station not 5-10min ish before he ran out of gas and guessed the amount of time it'd take to walk back to it(suggesting he's really stupid or he had a reason for driving on EMPTY past the gas station). Either way all of this activity by the husband is too suspicious for me to believe that he simply ran out of gas on a stretch of highway exactly where a killer was located and then decided to leave his wife alone in a locked car, AND THEN when he got back his wife was dead in a locked car haha. He's guilty alright.

I don't like the no roof answer. It makes no sense to lock the doors and windows if you have no roof. She also double checks the locks on the doors and windows when she gets scared. Implying that locking the doors and windows gives her comfort, something she wouldn't get if there car had no roof(unless she's dumb). As to the actual question of "How did the murderer kill the wife?" The husband strangled her really quickly, locked the door, and started walking again. My best guess.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Doesn't explain why he locked the car back up however, unless he claims the killer saw him leave and is trying to frame him(In which case he can say he left the keys in the car and his wife is friendly person) I don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  63. the murderer ate the wife

    ReplyDelete
  64. Nancy Pelosi stopped by and filled the car with some of her Botox by squeezing it in through the ventilation system.
Then Anthony Weiner came by and did a tribal dance while waving his wee-wee.
This made Barney Frank jealous and he farted and the smell was so bad, the wife suffocated holding her breath.

    Well, that's my theory anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  65. she saw the reflection of the murderer on the widshield of the car from inside. so the murderer was actually behind her in the car.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Stupid question, there's not enough information given to answer the actual question which was "how did the murderer kill the wife??" He could have strangled her, smothered her, stabbed her....there's no way to tell. Obviously the question should have benn "How did the murderer gain access to the wife in order to kill her?" There's no way to answer that question for sure either. Why would the husband tell her to lock all the windows and doors? Apparently because he's concerned for her safety. But if he's concerned for her safety why would he leave her there in a car with no roof? How do we know the killer didn't kill her with a poison gas bomb? The car can't be airtight. That's as realistic as a laser.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Its quite simple really. Just have to read in between the lines.
    1. "off the husband went, and the wife first locked ALL the windows and doors." - meaning he left with the doors/windows unlocked and the wife locked it up
    2. "Then she saw the murderer, only a couple feet away from the car."
    3. "All the windows were still locked, and the doors ... it was the same way as when he left it." - see #1 the husband left with the doors unlocked; this indicates he visited the car at a separate time ... im guessing at #2 when the wife saw the husband (not knowing he's the murderer) and opened the door for him

  72. The wife locked the doors and windows and she stands outside and listens to the radio.
as she hears and see a tall outside the car, so he kills her and open the car with keys and puts the deadbody inside and locks it with no trace.

    ReplyDelete
  73. As per the question,
The wife locks the door and windows does not mean that she is sitting inside out standing out. She turns on the radio also does not mean that she is inside. May be she is outside and locked all the windows listening to the radio. as soon as she turns off the radio, she sees the murderer which then kills her out and put her body inside the car, locks everything and wents on.

Having a open roof is an assumption with no proof, can be considered as an alternative but not the correct one as the question never says anything regarding the car. Also if it is an open roof then what is the meaning of locking everything.

The husband can not be a killer as it is again an assumption, having no proof.

So the correct answer should be "WIFE WAS KILLED OUTSIDE THE CAR AND THE BODY WAS KEPT INSIDE THE CAR WITH THE HELP OF KEYS FROM THE WIFE"

    ReplyDelete
  74. It took 2 hours for the husband to go back. Since the car is in an off-engine state. It undergo incomplete combustion, producing carbon monoxide instead of a carbon dioxide. CO2 escapes via muffler outside the engine while CO escapes effusively through any spaces it can pass on (either inside or outside the car).

It is simply a CARBON MONOXIDE INTOXICATION.

    So DULL. BORING.

    ReplyDelete
  75. i believe that that the car is convertable. knowing this the husband(the killer) told her to lock all of the doors and windows.(taking her mind off of the fact the the car is roofless, allowing the husband to murder the wife, obtain the gas to refill the car and get the cops off of his trail.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The solution that the car was roofless is because, we're missing some facts here.

Based on the given facts, my deduction would be :

    Hint 1)
"Radio announces a murderer on the loose being seen along the highway"

Someone had seen the husband drive in his car, And this has been reported over.

    Hint 2)
When the car supposedly stopped without gas,
Husband says to his wife "I'll take a drive down the highway and be back in 1 hour".

Imagine, when your car stops in the nowhere of a highway, you never know where the nearest gas station might be and How long it wud take to find a station.
How did he know it would take him around 1 hour?
And it's a strange coincidence that he returned exactly after one hour as he promised.
(He was never away for thw whole of one hour but, Which I'll explain below)

This is because the husband wanted his wife to come to an impression that, he'd be away for a while, so that she'd not doubt him.

    Hint 3)
    "Read books/ Listen Radio" :
He asked his wife to do this, to divert her attention as he had quietly pulled a slow gas leak inside the car before getting down.

There are many cases with slow gas leak incident, where the victim never knew about the leakage till the critical time.

    Hint 4)

"He asked her to close the Windows and doors".

Now this is the most vital point that supports all our deductions.

    A) THAT THE CAR HAD ROOF:
If it was truly a roofless car,
Why would he ask her to close the doors and Windows for safety, doing Which (in a roofless car)would be of totally no use?

    B)THAT THE MURDER WAS PLANNED:
He wanted her to be trapped inside with the slow gas leak.

    C) THAT SHE CANT ESCAPE :
"He handed over the key to her"

As he handed her the key before he left, as it was a false key and he had locked her completely inside to suffocate from the slow leak.

    This is also our

    Hint 5)
"He gave her the key. "

    Hint 6)
"The wife checked the security by confirming if the doors and Windows are locked".

She unfortunately and unknowingly sealed her own fate by this act.

    Hint 7)
    These two contexts :
    "Wife saw the murderer "
"Husband returned after one hour and found that the car was in the same condition as before"

    First context :
Wife after seeing the murderer (husband)didnt make any struggle as it was her well known husband only, who's is standing outside.
She must have Thought that husband returnd back without finding gas station and hence continued reading the book/listening The radio.

Meanwhile, the slow gas leak started filling and suffocated her eventually.

    Second context :
After she had suffocated (which would have taken around 1 hour), He came near the car to confirm if he had created a perfect alibi.
Hence found the car in the same condition without any scratch or damage.

The motive of his murder, however remains a puzzle still as no further fact supports it.

    ReplyDelete
  77. To sum up my above deduction,
    This is how it happened:

"The Husband took a ride on a closed roof car with his wife, along the highway.
He Purposedly stoped the car stating the gas is empty.
He slipped a slow gas leak in the car and handed over a false key to his wife and went out of the car. In a short while when he is back, he stands outside the car and his wife thinks husband couldn't find any gas stations so she needs to spend some time reading books /listening Radio sitting inside the car.
Slowly she has been suffocated and before she realized it, the suffocation intoxicated her.
Husband waited for almost an hour In front of the car to confirm the suffocation.

He went near the car to confirm the perfect closed room alibi and her death.
