Famous Riddle - 28 September

On my way to St. Ives I saw a man with 7 wives. Each wife had 7 sacks. Each sack had 7 cats. Each cat had 7 kittens. Kitten, cats, sacks, wives. How many were going to St. Ives?

***DIE HARD-3 Famous riddle***

1. 1+7*7*7*7=2402

1. 2403 is the right answer
1+1+7*7*7*7

2. No its not onley 1 man is going because only he is going not his wives and kittens!

3. the riddle never stated the second group was even going to St.ives so there can oly be 1 person going.

4. In the start it says on MY way to st Ives... So non of the seven groups are going only you

5. it is +1 and watch epic rap battles of history batman vs sherlock holmes

6. how would we know if any of them are going to st.hives, let alone how many are going even the guy on the way might change his mind

7. "On my way to St.Ives" just the one XD

8. it says on MY way to saint ives so nor the wives, cats, kittens, sacks are going. just the person who saw all of that!!!!! so simple! :0

9. i know right! (the anonymous above me)

10. Well its 1, it didn't tell that the man and the Blah blah blah were going to St.Ives

11. 28, but he did say MY, he was fooled by his own riddle, think it through next time :)

12. 1+1+7*7*7 sacks cant be counted as people

2. Answer is 2802
Explain....
Kitten in one bag=7*7=49
Total in one bag(7Cats+49Kittens)=49+7=56
Total in 7 bags(49Cats+343Kittens)=56*7=392
Total At one Wife(7Bags+49Cats+343Kittens)=7+392=399
Total At 7 Wife (49Bags+343Cats+2401Kittens)=399*7=2793
Total to St. Ives=1(me)+1(man)+7(wives)+2793(49 bags+343 Cats+2401 Kittens)=2802

1. This is a kid riddle, watch your language.

2. Seriously, great language! Hope you are not a teacher.

3. 1, your thinking to much :p

4. Dumb peole it's 1 because it says a man not a man and his wives

5. its 1 no one said the man was going to st.ives it is just me

6. Only one was going

7. I donnt get this

8. yes, one and ONLY one man going. He only saw cats, blah blah..blah..but they were not going with him....simple !

9. 1(man)+7(wives)+49(sacks)+343(cats)+2401(kitten)=2801(total)

10. this is a kid riddle!!!! you must be a teacher!!

3. One. Just you, rest are coming from St. Ives :)

4. one,the person who is asking

5. uve just met them ...

6. Only The person.. so 1

1. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

7. i Loled at the calculations, but it is actually only 1

8. 1 the one who is asking

9. 1 thats me.... u jus saw d man wid his wives

1. I think your right!

2. only 1, that's you!!!!!

3. total is: 1+7+7*7+7*7*7+7*7*7*7

4. You only saw the man. It doesn't say that he had his seven wives and their pets with him.... and it doesn't say the man with seven wives was going that way either. 'I am the one going to St. Ives'.

5. there is only 1 person because there all in a sack in one mans hand

10. I don't understand how there is enough information given to determine the correct answer. Did the storyteller see the man and his wives beside the road going nowhere? Did he overtake them and pass them and all were on the road to/towards St. Ives? Was the man and his wives going the opposite direction away from St. Ives?

11. one man is described with above details, but he is only going

12. 1 i think its funny that the first 2 guys put loads of calculations and stuff like that lol :)

1. it never specifies that they were going the opposite direction out of St.Ives. Therefore you could be wrong and you could be right, not enough info. was given.

13. 1, the guy

1. thats what i think

14. 1 only he goes

15. the "I". because you don't know whether the man, 7 wives, 7 sacks, 7 cats and 7 kittens are going to St. Ives too

16. Nobody is going because how do they even get there

1. Well you see a train in traveling west at *****, That shit dosnt matter, its one lol

17. the correct answer is 64 the wrnog answer is not in the high range of the 200s my specific range for the answer is 50-60 because sacks are traveling items so there are a total of 49 kitens, 7 adult cats, 7 wives, and one husband so ANSWER:64 49+7+7+1=64

18. The cats and kittens and sacks wouldn't count because they aren't "people"

Not enough information is given on the direction the man with 7 wives is going so it's hard to determine if it's 1 or 7

19. *I mean 9

20. 1, you never said the man, his wives, cats, and kittens were also going to St. Ives. The narrator is the only one going there.

21. only 1 the man who saw.... coz there is no info. given wheather they were on d same way.

22. Only one person is going to St. Ives. He only saw the man.

23. 1+7(7(7+49*7))=17151

24. 2752
SHAKSHI

25. Only him the answer is 1

26. You are the only one thtas going becuase you didn't say that the people you saw were going to St. Ives with you or anything. I'm really samrt. I am 9 and I figured it out by MYSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. you are 9!!! good job :)

27. i am alone,, i found them on them on the way

1. no no no sorry to say vishwah sharma that no need to lie so much because you were not there

28. i am alone going to st,, i found them on the way

29. I see a lot of wrong answers.. I'm not gonna figure it out. Note it didn't include the man, and it said Kitten, not kittens. Unless kitten in the plural of kitten.

30. 1 is the correct answer, no dip. The speaker is the onlyy one going to St.Ives. Plus it says he meets a man but the man could go any direction (toward St.Ives or leaving St.Ives). So both 1 and 1 + (9*9)*((9)* (((9))))).

1. it is only you . it was hard to find out.

31. i hate this thing

32. im the only one going i was on my way there

33. there is only 1 person because the riddle never stated that the 2nd grounp was going. it simply stated in the first sentence that only YOU were going.

34. tere were 28 things oing to st ive

35. 1+(7*7)+(7*7)+(7*7)+7=155
including u/interviewer its 156 :)
on the other hand, if they all were not going, its only u dear :)

36. There is no clear answer. This riddle is poorly worded. The reader can't tell who is or is not on there way to St. Ive's. The only definitive answer is 1, the narrator. However, there is no reason not to assume that the others may be on their way as well.

37. If they all are going to st.Ive's the answer is

1(man) + 1(man)+ 7(wifes) + 7*7*7(cats)+7*7*7*7(kittens)

38. Its 1, cuz u saw the rest of them tht doesnt mean they were going also.

39. 2401 bnecause 7*7=49 and 7*7=49 so 49*49=2401

41. One person. The person going to St. Ives who saw the man with seven wives. They weren't going to St. Ives as well, only the man that saw them.

42. it is 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

43. the wives might of been going to he didnt ask plus he might change his mind lol , nobody knows :o

44. Only the man is there.

45. how the hell did he get 7 wives..This is unfair!!!!!

46. Just me #ForeverAlone

47. Da guy who saw all this

48. 1 person,because it did NOT say #THEY all went.It just said s/he WENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

49. 1. He passed all of them on his way to St Ives, they just happened to cross his path.

50. There is only one person going to St. Ives and that's me.

51. there are two chances:

1 7+7+7+1+1=23
2 only ME

52. Only 1, ME ^_^
Die Hard 3...
Zeus: No, wait, wait! It's a trick. It's a trick.
McClane: What d'you mean?
Zeus: I forgot about the man.
McClane: What man? Fuck the man! We got ten seconds here!
Zeus: He said, "how many were going to St. Ives," right? The riddle begins, "As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with seven wives!" The guy and his wives aren't going anywhere.
McClane: What are they doing?
Zeus: Sitting in the fucking road! Waiting on the moor! How the hell should I know ?!?

54. 1 he's the only person going

55. None; Only he is going to St. Ives, and he is not a kitten, cat, sack, or wife.

56. As previously said the riddle does not specify where the man with his wives ecc is headed: they could also be going to St. Ives
However assuming they were not going to st Ives the answer would be ZERO because the riddle asks how many between Kitten, cats, sacks, wives. So unless the narrator is a kitten, cat, sack or wife the answer would be zero

57. me only

58. As I was on my way to St. Ives.....
I met a man with seven wives.....
each wife had seven cats.....
each cat had seven kits.......
kits, cats, wives.......
how many were going to St. Ives???
