    1. we are not at a smart point of view; just simple memory would be enough ;) !!!!!!!!!!!

    2. That would not make the barrel lighter, that would just add the weight of the ammount of less dense substance to the top of the barrel.

Unless the barrel was full enough for you to force, say an empty 1 lb. 10 gal. bucket into the barrel, forcing the weight of ten gallons of oil from the brim, and adding only the 1 pound weight of the bucket. But I would say a hole.

  12. It's a big barrel, big enough to put a huuuuuuuuuuge helium balloon in it, which lifts the barrel from the weighing scale :)

A hole won't work here, as a hole is not something you would "put into" something - in proper English language, you'd rather "make" a hole into something, but NOT put.

The flaming match is a good idea!

    1. Finally someone that thinks about the answer and not guess the answer. You only have to make the barrel lighter than 100 pounds so if you make it 1 milligram lighter its lighter so just force alittle amount of helium in there. The barrel is weighed in atmospheric preasure so you have to add something which is lighter than air. HELIUM.

    2. A flaming match wont work as oil dont burn with a flame but rather heat and compression.

I am the same person that replied with the helium reply. And on the phone numbers multiplication riddle that corrected the people about their wrongs.

  13. Anything lighter than oil. Think about it. If its completely full, anything else put in would make it overflow with oil. so if its lighter then with barrel itself is consequently lighter.

  14. it says the " with oil that weighs 100 pounds," means oil weighed 100 pounds not the barrel. The barrel will have its own weight which was as before less than 400 pounds. "Now the barrel weighs less than 100 pounds."- read carefully

  15. HOLE is the right answer

  16. Well, the barrel filled with oil is 100 pounds and you need to put something in it to make it weigh less. You can put in a hole which drains the oil out and makes the barrel much less than 100 pounds.
