Murder Mystery Puzzle - 20 April

Murder Mystery PuzzleA wealthy man lives alone in a small cottage. Being partially handicapped he had everything delivered to his cottage. The mailman was delivering a letter one Thursday when he noticed that the front door was ajar. Through the opening he could see the man's body lying in a pool of dried blood. When a police officer arrived he surveyed the scene. On the porch were two bottles of warm milk, Monday's newspaper, a catalog, flyers, and unopened mail. The police officer suspects it was foul play. Who does he suspect and why?

  1. It was the newspaper delivery boy who murdered the wealthy man.
When the policemen came, they found only one newspaper of Monday, no Tuesday's or Wednesday's paper was found. That means he didn't deliver Tuesday's or Wednesday's paper as he knew that there was no one to read them as the wealthy man was the only person in the cottage & he murdered him.

    2. it was a foul play; milkman removes the newspapers of a couple of days to put the blame on newspaper man, and he put milk bottles to make things look normal for him, but he forgets about the warmth of the fresh bottles. which clearly means that milkman is killer.

    3. It was a foul play that is correct. I agree with your answer.

  4. Deekshika's story that the boy killed the man just moments ago, and rahul's story that milkman killed that day is not appropriate. Take also to the point that the blood is dried, two to three days would have passed.

  6. this plot has been put in such a way that the newspaper boy takes all the blame..but there are still some details that are unanswered for.well for one thing the Tuesdays and Thursdays newspapers aren't the only things missing. what about the milk from those days. the mail boy could very well see the body from the open door and there was fresh milk delivered just that day... according to the story the guy was dead at least 3 days as the Monday's newspaper was still unopened.frankly any body would STINK like hell in 3 days and as the door was ajar it would definitely attract flies and hence a definite buzzing. so to say that the milk man actually delivered the milk as far as the door and didnt notice the body is quite weird. and how come there are no bottles from tue and wed?
not delivering the papers was a good idea as cluttered up papers do grab attention as to the whereabouts of the man. but then why did the milkman continue delivering the milk?what happened to the two days milk? its rather unlikely that he was involved directly in the murder as he wudnt return to the crime scene to deliver milk. so that is something that needs answering to. anyone?

  8. You people are taking this too seriously. Remember the question in the puzzle.....Who does he suspect and why? Not who MURDERED him. So like all of you here, the cop suspects the mailman according to his logic. Give him a break...he needs time to find the real killer!! ;-)

  9. Puzzle says two bottle of warm milk can anyone tell how come bottle of tuesday remain warm hence mikman is the culprit

  10. The answer's logic is poor but frankly this crime scene couldnt exist. The only plausible way for the state things ended in as far as the newpaper boy being guilty is if he got into a fight, killed the wealthy man, and fled in a panic. Theres no other reason he would leave the door ajar.

This would account for the papers not being delivered those other days although its because the newspaper boy skipped town. He would clearly incriminate himself by not delivering papers like normal and if it had been thought out theres no way he would have done that and left the door ajar. Thats just implausible.

However, this would still require an incredibly oblivious milkman. The milkman would get there wednesday and see his day old milk still there, he would see the door ajar, and he would smell the decaying corpse.

Arent flyers normally stuck either on the door or in the crack between the door and house. Theres no way someone could do that without opening the door if it were already ajar.

The opening in the door was also so big that apparently the mailmen could see the body through it. Also why isnt the mailman using the mailbox? Perhaps they didnt use them whenever this supposedly happened.

Its an unfair assumption for us to assume he gets a daily paper.

The real plausible theory is that the milkman did it and the paperboy for whatever reason didnt deliver the paper everyday.

In order for the crime not to be noticed by anyone till the mailman saw it only the criminal and mailman could have been to house since the door was left ajar.

The milkman comes after the mailman (as evidenced by there being no cold milk at the scene).

The blood was already dry meaning the mailman couldnt have commited the murder the same day he reported it.

This all means the milkmen would have had to have seen the dead body had he not been the killer.

In conclusion, the milkman killed the wealthy man on tuesday while delivering milk. When he arrived on wednesday he noticed that nobody had found the body so he opened the door (presumably already unlocked from the murder). He did not take the newspapers because the mailman would be able to notice that papers were missing so they werent delivered for unexplained reasons (paperboy was sick or something).

Thats the detective story type answer. In a real scenario any of the people could have seen the dead body and said nothing because they needed to avoid police and anyone could have committed the murder tuesday and come by the house after the milkmen on wednesday to open the door. At least thinking about this was fun. Also trick question the detective suspects the wife because they always do.

  12. Milkman as when he came on thrusday the man was with money he killed him bundled newspapers in news paper such a like newspaper bundle and left.A Hawker can't take newspaper bundle back as he's on cycle in every country. But milkman too comes in vans.In his way nobody can see notes as they were bundled.Blood dries of a person when it falls from a live being within a hour. The bottles warm show that they were of less time I.e. A hour.both bottles were warm so can't be Tuesday Wednesday.
