**Maths Brain Twister - 24 January**

Two natural numbers are having a sum less than 100 and are both greater than one.

Ned knows the product of the numbers and Shawn knows the sum of numbers.

The following conversation takes place between them:

Ned: 'I am not aware of those numbers.'

Shawn: 'I knew you wouldn't be. I am not aware myself.'

Ned: 'Now I know them!'

Shawn: 'Now I know them, too!'

What are the two numbers?

I don't know the answer but I would request the owner of the blog to give full explanation while answering the question. Not just the two number which would be probable answer.

ReplyDeleteI suppose, the question/puzzle itself is not complete.

4 and 13

ReplyDeletewill u give a detailed soln

ReplyDeletesorry mate! my English isn't good.. first Shawn said "I knew you wouldn't be" that mean the number that he got shouldn't be the sum of 2 prime number for example it can't be 13 because 2+11 equal 13 but it can be 11,17,23,27,29,35 ...so if Ned got 28 he can know that the 2 number is 4,13 not 2,14 because 16 can be the sum of 3+13 .then he said he got the answer if Shawn number is 17 (2+15,3+14,4+13,5+12,6+11,10+7,9+8,)in this case 30,42,60,66,70,72 can the product of two number which the sum of that two number should be sum of two prime for example 30 can be the product of 5 x 6 but 5 + 6 is 11 and 11 can't be the sum of two prime so he Shawn can't know his number. Thus when Shawn said he knew that two number Ned would realize if his number is 30,42,60,66,70,72 he would be able to know his answer so there is only one answer 4 and 13. i don't think u can understand my English and i'm not sure is it correct or not.
