Deductive Thinking Puzzle

Deductive Thinking Puzzle - 23 July

There are three identical triplets sisters. Demi is the oldest of them all and she always speaks truth. Diana is the next one who is a liar always. Drew, the youngest of them all speaks both truth and lies randomly.

On a rainy day, a family friend Victor visited them. Since there were starkly identical, he was not able to recognize them. Thus to clarify, he asked one question to each one of them.

He started with the one standing on the left and asked, 'Which sister is in the middle of you three?' She answered, 'That’s Demi.'

Then, he asked the one standing in the middle, 'What is your name?' She answered, 'I am Drew.'

Finally he asked the one standing on the right, 'Who is standing in the middle?' She answered, 'She is Diana.'

Victor was left baffled. He asked the questions three times and received different answers every time.

Can you tell who was who?

  1. Left = Drew
    Middle = Diana
    Right = Demi

    Clue by Clue:
    He started with the one standing on the left and asked, 'Which sister is in the middle of you three?' She answered, 'That’s Demi' ... since Demi always tells the truth we know this sister is NOT Demi

    Then, he asked the one standing in the middle, 'What is your name?' She answered, 'I am Drew.' ... again, Demi only speaks truth so this can't be Demi so Demi must be the sister on the right

    Finally he asked the one standing on the right, 'Who is standing in the middle?' She answered, 'She is Diana.' .. since we know this is Demi and she only speaks truth rest follows easily

  2. Since he asked the questions three times and always got different answers, this shocks me. At least one of the sisters always speaks the truth, thus there should be at least one answer unvaried among trials... unless they changed positions, but this isn't said in the text.

  3. (1) (2) (3)

    1st one is Drew
    2nd one is Diana
    3rd one is Demi

    When Victor asks 1st girl, if she would be demi she would speak the truth that in middle it's Demi. but she cannot.
    Victor asks 2nd girl, she said I am drew. Now she can't be demi. so she may be Drew or Diana.

    Victor Asks 3rd girl, she said Diana is in middle.

    so according to the first girl she was lying so 1st girl was Drew and 2nd was Diana. and according to the last answer 3rd was definatly Demi..

  4. The question clearly states that Victor got 3 different answers - all three times. We can get 2 sets of different answers,but not 3rd time as Demi will always sp truth and her answer shall remain same.
